NEW! – You can now apply for Child Care costs (including retrospectively, from 23rd Mar 2020).

Evidence –  The Applicant will be requested to compulsorily provide at least 2 of the 3 below as evidence* – 

a.      Birth Certificate or UK Adoption Certificate or School Certificate of child/children (we can provide support for up to 2 children per household), including for Children with Special Education Needs (SEN).

We will deal with applications on a case by case basis and till funds last!

b.      Letter from their Current Employer evidencing that the applicant is currently in paid employment and uses Child Care.
c.      *Letter of support from other agencies (including government) to prove Child Care responsibilities and costs

Support amounts – Grants of up to £2000 are available towards Child Care costs –

1.      The Applicant can apply for Child Care costs for children up to five years – for up to £125 per week 
2.      The Applicant can apply for Child Care costs for a Childminder for six to twelve-year olds during term time – for up to £70 per week
3.      The Applicant can apply for Holiday Child Care costs – for up to £150 per week

*The CWC can now provide you with a grant towards COVID-19 related Emergency (household and white goods purchases, house repairs, etc) and Car Repairs (for the actual amount spent), during the Covid-19 pandemic. Please provide us with a brief explanation (of not more than 50 words) about why you need the grant and evidence of the same (quote from car mechanic/garage on letter headed receipt).

**The CWC can now provide you with a grant of up to £1000 if you are OR have been stranded abroad because of COVID-19 related travel disruption. Please provide adequate proof (airline tickets and hotel reservations) to receive a grant. This will be dealt with on a case by case basis and till funds last.

Covid-19 Emergency Fund

The Care Workers' Charity COVID-19 Grant Fund aims to provide emergency funding for individuals who are currently employed in a role that is involved in or supports the provision of adult, elderly or disability care. These may include residential social care, domiciliary/home care, supported living care.

The Care Workers Charity is currently offering the following grants:

•  ISOLATION AND SHIELDING GRANTS - If you have taken one, two or more weeks off work due to Covid-19 for either illness, self-isolation, or shielding. We are currently awarding between £250 (1 week of self-isolation), £500 (2 weeks of self-isolation), up to £2,000 (12 weeks of shielding).

•  FUNERAL COST GRANT - If you are a care worker who is responsible for paying the funeral costs of a next of kin (partner, parent, sibling, child, or other on a case-by-case basis) OR if you are the next of kin for a care worker who has passed on from COVID--19, then we are awarding grants of up to £2000.

  • If you are currently in receipt of financial support or have access to funds (in response to the COVID-19 pandemic), from the Company you work with (this includes Furlough) or are already applying for funding under the Solihull Council scheme.
  • If you are employed as a Registered Nurse
  • If you have already received a grant from us - COVID-19 Emergency Grants are limited to one grant per applicant. Please do not apply twice or re-apply (if already awarded/ declined) as you will NOT be supported.

Grant Request

If you are applying for a grant because you are self-isolating please upload a copy of your isolation notes for at least 2 weeks.  You can obtain an isolation note from

If you are applying for a grant because you are shielding for up to 12 weeks, please upload the NHS letter to evidence the same.

If you are unable to obtain a self-isolation note, we also accept any of the following, based on your circumstances;

·       A signed letter from your employer on a Company Letterhead, that states the length of self-isolation from work


·       An SSP form that states time off work


·       An NHS shielding letter (for up to 12 weeks of shielding)

You can apply for up to a total of £2,000 with the following limits

- Childcare costs are available for children aged up to five years old.
- You can apply for the costs of a childminder for six to twelve year olds during term time
- You can apply for holiday childcare costs
