The Care Workers’ Charity Responds to Green Party Manifesto

The Care Workers’ Charity welcomes the Green Party’s newly launched manifesto, which places a strong emphasis on social care and the needs of the care workforce.

Karolina Gerlich, CEO of The Care Workers’ Charity says, “We are pleased to see care front and centre of this manifesto and the clear acknowledgment of the needs of the care workforce.

It is encouraging to see conversations starting about real investment in social care, with a proposal to invest £20 billion annually and speaking openly about on how support for the care sector and the NHS must go hand in hand.

The Green Party’s commitment to creating career pathways within the care sector, with training and qualifications, is also welcomed and something we have long campaigned for. We would like to see more details on the referenced national pay, terms, and conditions for all care workers and more details on how this funding increase would be met and when it would start.

We know that it is necessary to have difficult but essential discussions about funding. There are no easy answers, but this conversation needs to take place with all political parties, and we hope this is a step towards doing that.”
