Going the extra mile in ‘Avery’ way

Going the extra mile in 'Avery' way

Avery Healthcare has been a supporter of The Care Workers’ Charity since it was founded in 2009, since when they have been a proactive partner by promoting the charity at events, continuously committing to helping care workers. Now a sponsor of the charity since 2017, such unwavering support means that we are able to support more care workers.

The Care Workers Charity provides some incredible support for people in the sector who are facing extreme hardship. Without their support and intervention during these difficult times, many families would face significant challenges. We are proud to support the CWC in their work.” Lisa Soper, Operations Director

Thank you for Going the Extra Mile

Avery Healthcare has helped us spearhead the fundraising success of the charity by developing the Going the Extra Mile concept, beginning in 2017 with a seaside themed event that got all their homes involved. Fun was had by all as everyone put on their brightest Hawaiian shirts! In their first year of company-wide fundraising, Avery raised £5,250 for The Care Workers’ Charity.

2018 saw another group-wide fundraising event with Avery’s Summer Cocktail Parties. Some homes completed a sponsored walk and were greeted by a nice cooling cocktail on their return, helping to fundraise over £3,400 on the day in 2018.

For Going the Extra Mile in 2019, Avery triumphed once again by raising over £6,000 for the charity on a single day. Specially designed wheel-chair friendly bikes were brought in so that residents could join in the fun. We are so impressed with Avery’s fundraising that we presented Mark Danis with an award for his Outstanding contribution to CWC.

The Care Workers’ Charity is extremely happy to have Avery as a partner and we are confident this amazing partnership will continue to flourish. The dedication to fundraising means that there is awareness of the charity within Avery and we can all better support care workers.

Avery has also joined in with our other fundraising activities

The Charity have hosted two challenge events over the last couple of years and teams from Avery Healthcare have participated each time. For the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 2018, staff from Amarna Lodge Care Home in York and Avery’s Group Support Centre endured all weathers to climb the highest peaks in this county to raise funds; altogether, the team of 8-strong raised over £2,500 for the Charity.

Avery also joined in with The Care Workers’ Charity night-time Snowdon Trek in 2019. Avery staff climbed to the very top of the mountain (despite the rain and fog on the night) and raised a further £3,960.

I decided to get involved in The Care Workers ‘Climb Mount Snowdon at Night’ event because I wanted to give something back to all Care Workers and thank them for the amazing job they do. They truly are the backbone of the Health and Social Care industry. I’m incredibly proud of myself for conquering Snowdon as it was for me a tough challenge, but I’m even prouder that I’ve made a contribution to such a worthwhile charity.” Kate Gilligan, Home Manager

 What’s next for Avery

Since 2017 Avery’s fundraising total is an impressive £22,000 for the Charity, helping to protect care workers and their families from hardship and providing them with goods and support needed for everyday living which changes lives.

Mark Danis, the Commercial Director at Avery Healthcare has stated: “The Care Worker’s Charity is a beacon of support to all in the sector for help and guidance for those facing difficulties, w

ho through pride may not have alerted their employers or colleagues to their plight, and wish to deal with their situations privately. Avery is proud to be associated with this fine charity and to be able to support it on many levels.”

In addition to fundraising, since 2017 Avery Healthcare has contributed £50,145 to The Care Workers’ Charity in sponsorship which could fund our current grant payments for four months.

We extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Avery for the ongoing support as it helps us to keep the UK caring. We look forward to many more years of partnership with Avery in support of care workers.

It is amazing to see how Avery have embraced and driven Going the Extra Mile, year after year to make it such an exciting event that champions the role of care workers and brings care staff and care recipients together. We are delighted that Avery are working to promote the charity to their staff and a wider audience, and I am excited to see how the partnership will develop to ensure that we are supporting care workers better.” Sarah Hyman, Head of Operations, The Care Workers’ Charity.
