When Care Workers Become Family: The Lasting Bonds Built Through Care

When Care Workers Become Family: The Lasting Bonds Built Through Care

Care workers are there for some of life’s most personal moments.

They help people feel safe, supported and understood. They build routines, share conversations, offer reassurance and become familiar faces that people look forward to seeing.

Over time, those relationships can become incredibly meaningful.

For the person receiving care, a care worker may become a trusted companion. For families, they can become someone they rely on, someone who knows their loved one well and someone who brings comfort during times that can otherwise feel uncertain.

For some people, experiencing that kind of care can also prompt them to think about the future. That might mean writing a Will for the first time, or reviewing an existing Will to make sure it still reflects the people and causes that matter to them.

A thank you that lasts

When someone has made a real difference to your life or the life of someone you love, it is natural to want to say thank you.

For some people, that thank you may be something more lasting.

Leaving a gift in your Will to The Care Workers’ Charity can be a meaningful way to recognise the difference care workers have made while helping support future generations of care workers too.

Writing your first Will or updating one you already have

You do not need to wait for a particular age or stage of life to write a Will.

If you do not currently have one, writing your first Will gives you the opportunity to make your wishes clear and think about the people you want to provide for.

If you already have a Will, it is worth reviewing it from time to time to make sure it still reflects your life, your relationships and the things that matter to you now.

If care workers have played an important part in your life, or in the life of someone you love, you may decide that supporting them is something you would like your Will to reflect too.

Supporting the people who support others

Most of us will encounter care at some point in our lives. It might be support we receive ourselves, or care provided to a parent, partner, grandparent or another person we love. And when someone cares for a person who means everything to you, their impact can be difficult to put into words.

Perhaps they helped your loved one feel less alone.

Perhaps they gave your family reassurance.

Perhaps they became someone you trusted completely.

Leaving a gift in your Will to The Care Workers’ Charity is a way to turn that gratitude into support for the care workers of the future.

A thank you that keeps helping others.
