- We provide financial grants of up to £500 to support unexpected and unforeseen circumstances. Including but not limited to, sudden unexpected illness or injury, unexpected loss of income, loss of home, or relationship break downs.
- Champions are our volunteers, our boots on the ground, our eyes and ears. They aim to inform people about the Care Workers Charity and put on interesting and engaging fundraising events. Anyone can become a Champion.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ROYAL ALFRED SEAFARERS' SOCIETY
Established in 1865, the Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society has been providing nursing, dementia, residential and respite care to retired seafarers and their dependants for over 150 years.
Based in Banstead, the nursing home provides care for 68 residents. This includes a dementia annexe and memory lounge that serves up to 36 residents.
In 2018, staff training levels at the home reached an all-time of high of 100%, with the home’s in-house trainer dedicating 115 hours of training across the year so far, equipping all staff with the knowledge to provide around the clock, outstanding care to all residents.
Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt OBE has been Chief Executive at The Royal Alfred since 2006. Before that, he served for 35 years in the Royal Navy. During Brian’s time in charge, the Society has built on its reputation for the highest standards of care and received positive recognition from the Care Quality Commission, recently achieving a GOOD rating.
We support our care workers by:
- Rewarding those who have hit ten-year milestones with an award for their achievement and loyalty to the home
- In 2017 we won awards such as ‘Outstanding Contribution to Care’ at The Surrey Care Awards and ‘Residential Care Smaller Organisation’ at The Laing Buisson Awards
- Staff benefits include: a generous pension scheme, flexible working for staff and contribution towards uniform costs, as well as an employee assistance programme
- Staff are also encouraged to join in with activities and events run by the Society, adding to the community feeling within the home and group trips
